MASSAGE TECHNIQUES I OFFER
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
This is the favorite of many of my clients. It's hallmark deep compressive strokes go a long way to relieving tight muscles, and sensitive radiating trigger points in and around muscle tissue (trigger point therapy). I also incorporate techniques to soften adhesions from scar tissue. Interesting to note, your deep massage is another person's light massage, so gauging what your enjoyment/ tolerance /desired level of deep work means starting with a moderate pressure and then adjusting to the appropriate pressure for you.
RELAXATION MASSAGE
Relaxation Massage, also known as Swedish massage is a lovely, flowing full body experience that can incorporate some deep tissue elements. The goal however is to bring about total relaxation. The session is mostly quiet, utilizing these time honored techniques: effleurage (gliding over the area that is massaged), pettrisage ( kneading), tapotement, (rhythmic tapping), friction (to increase heat to an area) and vibration/ shaking (loosening the tissue). Not all people like all the techniques, so a discussion beforehand takes place. You set the tone for the type of massage you wish to have.
HOT STONE MASSAGE
A favorite of spas the world over. If you love a deep tissue, massage then Hot Stone is a technique that affords deep tissue with the addition of smooth hot basalt stones (not burning - adjusted for your comfort). The stones allow for deep work without the 'pain' associated with working on chronic tight muscles. Hot stones are placed on areas of the body that can soften tight muscles to help release tension. My clients especially enjoy when I incorporate essential oils (usually lavendar).
SPORTS MASSAGE
Sports Massage involves techniques that are integrated into a deep tissue massage or a stand alone treatment that is used before or after a sporting event. In addition, If you exercise regularly, sports massage techniques will help with tightness and soreness
in between workouts. While regular running, jogging, biking, swimming, gymnastics, etc...offer tremendous health benefits, many athletic activities also place added stresses on the body and it's better to relieve some of the repetitive stresses to avoid and minimize the possibility of injury. I have worked with dancers, individual atheletes, runners, offered pre-event and post event sports support.
PRICE LIST
PREGNANCY MASSAGE
A most exciting time. The anticipation of a new life brings with it the need for extra nurturing for moms-to-be. Pre- Natal massage usually starts after the first trimester. Ask your pre-natal care giver for guidance. The many and varied symptoms experienced during pregnancy can be greatly alleviated with massage. During pregnancy physical - hormonal, postural changes as well the emotional anticipation exhaustion and yes, worry all come together to increase tension. Regular massage is extremely beneficial. And when your due date arrives - a deeper pre labor massage is a great preparation before child birth.
INTEGRATED TECHNIQUES
Some other techniques that I integrate into a massage upon request include, general reflexology, lymphatic drainage - for generalized care -especially for pregnency related edema, myofacial release, PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation - not as fancy as it sounds), targetted stretching techniques. Some clients cross over into another specialty I offer - Personal Training/ Strength and Conditioning. Even if you are not a regular personal training client, I teach clients how to maintain their gains with appropriate stretching and strengthening tips and advise how to prevent/ avoid injury.
